RUI PAULA – UMA COZINHA NO DOURO
“Rui Paula – Uma Cozinha no Douro” was launched on the market in October 2008 by Quidnovi Editions, sponsored by Sogevinus, and already has an English edition. The book, written by Celeste Pereira and Nelson Garrido photography, won the Gourmand World Cookbook in the category of “first Cookbook work”, to which 17 countries competed. Among the 33 countries counted in the category Best Cookbook Photography, Nelson Garrido photography was third.
The World Cookbook Awards were created in 1995 by Edouard Cointreau in 2001 and started calling themselves “Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.” Born to ”reward and honor those who cook with words” and help readers find the best food and wine books from over 26,000 books published annually. In 2008, the competition received over 6,000 books from 102 countries. The lengthy selection process culminated on July 1, 2009, in Paris, in a ceremony at the historic theater Comédie Française.
Much more than a mere collection of recipes, ”Rui Paula –Uma Cozinha no Douro” is a book full of sights, smells and tastes of the Douro wine region. The reader is left to navigate the most beautiful region of Portugal, led by Nelson Garrido objective and the sensory trace of old memories and flavors that populate each of the culinary creations from Rui Paula.

After the publication, in 2008 of the book “Uma Cozinha no Doro,” the OPorto Chef and the publisher Quidnovi join again in the edition of a work which, this time, discusses the return to the origins of Rui Paula and his proposed local culinary inspirations.
If in DOC its primary element of influence resided in the culture and the Douro experiences in a more rural universe, DOP has the breadth of the Atlantic Ocean. The inspiration is more urban and “sailor”, more geared to the world, but also old memories ambiance.
The book was written by Pedro Garcias and the photos are from Nelson Garrido.
